Muldrew Lake & Environs
While Canada’s greatness is its expanse including mountain ranges, prairie, tundra, forest and seacoast, I first felt I knew Canada at my wife’s family cottage in Muskoka. Muskoka typifies the dark lakes, tall pines, and bold rock faces of the Canadian imagination. And no more so than on Muldrew Lake. Six generations ago, two brothers bought crown land on Muldrew Lake and now Anne’s family has multiplied to inhabit cottages across the islands and around the lake. Every August, they all meet for a potluck and singsong. The last song sung, while all stand, is the Canadian National Anthem.
